John Wick 4 Franchise Guide

The Fluid team were thrilled when we were approached by Lionsgate to develop a full franchise guide for John Wick, one of the most beloved action series ever created. The guide was to be broken down into two phases - with phase one focusing on John Wick: Chapter 4, and phase two looking at the previous movies and the John Wick universe as a whole. We’re looking forward to showing off phase two in the coming months but for now… we wanted to show some of the awesome art pieces the team worked on for Chapter 4.

Releasing back in March 2023 and taking the world by storm, John Wick: Chapter 4 broke records for the franchise, becoming the first movie in the series to earn over $400 million at the global box office. Boasting incredible high octane action, stunning visual sequences and a stellar cast relentlessly trying to kill one another in all manner of creative ways - it’s fair to say Chapter 4 is our favourite of all the John Wick movies and we wanted to create a guide that was just as epic as its source material.

The guide was to have three core pillars as its focus - Baba Yaga himself, the villainous High Table, and the Osaka Continental, one of the locations that is both unique and synonymous to Chapter 4. Check them out in the images below!

Baba Yaga

Throughout our Baba Yaga section, we incorporated pieces like playing cards, John’s weapons, broken reflections and extreme light angles to create an action packed feel. All these elements were meticulously detailed with authentic markings. High contrast, multilayered and detailed graphics were used to tell a compelling visual story about John’s iconic character.

The High Table

The High Table governs the underworld’s most powerful criminal organisations, and is considered the ultimate authority in crime. So we wanted this section to showcase The High Table’s ancient routes through Aztec imagery and pattern work, whilst also pushing its opulence and power to the forefront, through lavish and golden pieces adorned with gilded stone accents.

Osaka Continental

For the Osaka Continental section, we blended modern Japanese design with timeless cherry blossom touches. We employed captivating red and green lighting, incorporating the hotel logo and intricate geometric designs. These elements are infused with a modern cyber overlay, resulting in an eye-catching composition that seamlessly marries traditional and contemporary influences, all while maintaining a distinct Japanese flair.
