Synapse Brand & Visual Identity

Developed by VR specialists nDreams and made exclusively for the PSVR 2, Synapse combines brutal firepower, expressive telekinesis and an iconic art style to give players a shooter like no other. The game is built around its dual-wielding combat, where players wield a gun in one hand and fight using Synapse abilities with the other - the telekinesis system at the core of the experience. Mastery of this unique combat style is essential as you battle your way through a hostile mindscape.

Working on the branding of the title, the Fluid team helped to develop all aspects of Synapse’s visual identity. This included the style and tone, key art, logo and logo animation, brand and video guidelines, as well as the name of the game itself. We wanted to incorporate elements of surrealism, action and mystery to create a visually striking style, whilst at the same time reinforcing the mind as the pillar of the brand. The use of contrasting colour was one of the most important aspects of the branding for us. Synapse's unique monochromatic world is one of its stand out features, and when that world is disrupted with vibrant bursts of colour during combat sequences, players are gifted with a visual feast of action. We felt this aspect of the game had to be reflected in its presentation, and we wanted audiences to be drawn to the colour - and drawn to the fight.

We can’t wait for players to lose themselves in Synapse’s mindscape when the game launches later this year, and are proud to have helped build the brand for what we believe is one of the most visually striking and action packed VR experiences yet.
